April 3, 2014 – INDIO , CA – Last night, the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and approximately 150 members’ of the community helped to raise over $3,000 during the fundraising event for injured Coachella boxer Angel Osuna. The money raised came from door entry and raffle prizes, including an autographed boxing glove from Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton.

In addition to the community support, Fantasy Springs Resort Casino General Manager Paul Ryan on behalf of the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians presented Angel Osuna with a check for $10,000. This donation was among the many others made throughout the evening including a $1,000 donation from Coachella Mayor Eduardo Garcia and friends, and $1,000 from Golden Boy Promotions. In total, $15,000 was given to help Osuna recover from his brain injury that left him hospitalized this past winter.

Ending the evening, Hugo Centeno, Angel Osuna’s opponent in the December 2013 fight, spoke heartfelt words about his support for Osuna and how Osuna has been a true warrior through this whole process, noting it was hard to celebrate his win knowing what Osuna was going through. Others who came to show support from the boxing community included, Golden Boy Promotions “Night of The Heavyweights” fighters, Fred “The Hammer” Williamson, and Lee Espinoza and members of the Coachella Valley Boxing Club.

There is an online fund currently accepting donations to support Osuna and his journey to recovery. The website will be active through April and anyone wishing to make contributions can do so by visitinghttps://www.youcaring.com/AngelOsuna.
