World class trainer Abel Sanchez spoke to Tha Boxing Voice after the Gennady Golovkin-Curtis Stevens press conference about the upcoming fight between GGG and Stevens and about Sergio Martinez.

Stevens was able to talk his way into a fight with GGG the way Darren Barker did with Sergio Martinez, though social networking. Stevens feels more than ready to face GGG but Sanchez feels that Stevens is not ready even though he does show potential.

“I said from the beginning he wasn’t (at the same level as Golovkin),” said Sanchez. “I think he is developing into a good fighter. He finally dropped down to 160 where he belongs and 3 or 4 fights from now he would be a better opponent for Golovkin.”

How did Stevens use social networking to land the fight? By talking as much smack as possible and Sanchez feels that if Stevens fights the way he talks then it will be lights out for the New York Native.

“With all the smack he is talking it makes for an intriguing fight for the public, for the garden and he is a native here so good publicity. If he does fight like he has been talking, I think it’s a short night for him.”

But just how short of a night would it be?

“It’s definitely not going past 5 (rounds).

Fans have wanted to see GGG face off against middleweight kingpin Sergio Martinez for some time in what would be a passing (or snatching) of the torch. The fight makes perfect sense for both fighters for legacy and money but for Martinez and his deteriorating health it may not be the best decision.

“I think that Sergio is looking for a cash out. I think Sergio will fight the winner of Mayweather-Canelo or Rodriguez-Cotto. I don’t think that he wants a tough fight. He has two fights left, 3 fights left in his career and I can’t blame him. I think he deserves a couple easy fights for what he has done in this game and ride off into the sunset. I don’t think he wants anything to do with Golovkin.”
