“In books, as in life, there are no second chances. On second thought: it’s the next work, still to be written, that offers the second chance.”
Cynthia Ozick’s words on second chances describes how second chances come about in life. Second chances do not come around as often as we would like and the actions we as humans take when a presented with the opportunity really show ones character.
Former Canadian Football League and Edmonton Eskimo Adam “The Boogeyman” Braidwood (4-1, 3 KO’s) had a promising football career but that was cut short due to injuries along with trouble with the law. Towards the end of his football career, Braidwood (who had previous experience boxing as an amateur) began boxing as a professional.
Braidwood was victorious in his debut but suffered a first round TKO in his second fight (which he fought while being injured). Since the loss and after spending time being incarcerated, Braidwood has done quite well for himself. Boxing is his main focus and football is out of the picture. He is dedicated solely to the sweet science and has gone 3-0 since returning which has also helped him gain a spot within the top ten of Canada’s heavyweight division. While he continues to work on improving, he has made this second chance possible and hopes to fight for a Canadian title soon.
“I try to take it one fight at a time,” Braidwood told Tha Boxing Voice. “I know there is a card (in Edmonton) on September 9th and that’s really where my focus is [now] and I’m concentrating on that. I’m 32 right now and I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life. I feel mentally stronger than I’ve ever been and I feel physically stronger. I’m able to work all day and train every single night and work on things. I’d like to have a Canadian title. That’s definitely an immediate goal of mine and it’s possible but I have to get quite a few more wins. 4-1 is OK but I’d like to see myself winning ten fights in a row and then kind of reevaluate some things.”
