Adam Braidwood has been one of Canada’s top heavyweight fighters for the last decade. Since his return to boxing in 2015 Braidwood has fought 14 times only losing one of those against Simon Kean. Braidwood was scheduled to fight Edmonton’s Stan Surmacz Ahumada early on in 2020 but Covid19 put an end to those plans. Since then most of Canada has shut down and many fighters have been inactive. With the inactivityBraidwood gets asked often if he is done with the sport.

“I’ve been getting asked [if I’m retired], but I’m still training and I’m still fighting,” stated Braidwood in video via social media. “The answer is yes, I am. It’s been a frustrating few years. As far as my fight career is concerned I’ve had about four or five fights fall through [and I] haven’t had really any good offers. I continue to work on my skills and I continue to work hard. I continue to sacrifice a lot as we all do as fighters do you know. We try to get what we can when we can.”

With fights falling through and no good opportunities around at the moment, things can be a bit frustrating but the fact that fighters openly express the want to fight Braidwood is definitely a plus in these downtimes. Braidwood also believes that there are enough good heavyweights in Canada to have a round-robin tournament.

“Simon Kean called me out. I feel like there’s quite a few heavyweights around right now enough in Canada that we could actually have a meaningful tournament. Dylan Carman has called me out.  ‘Big Country’ they call him if you’re not familiar.  I’ll refer to him as the big mouth from now on. You want to say my name three times I will appear and I will come find you. And Simon has called me out. He has stated he would like a rematch. You know I’ve improved a lot since the last fight and you know I wanted to get a few fights in between and you know in boxing you want to do the right fights at the right time and you want things to go your way obviously but you know, such as in life, that doesn’t always happen. I’m willing to put myself out there.

“There’s four or five guys in Canada that would actually make for a really interesting tournament if we were to have a toughest guy in Canada or whatever you want to say. So if you think that your the top MMA, kickboxing boxing, you know, throw your name in the hat let’s get down. I’ll be prepared. You know I’m continuing to grow as a fighter. I continue to train harder. I work with my coach virtually. A lot of you remember the Adam Braidwood and the boogeyman from a few years ago and let me tell you that I’ll be a much different fighter. And especially if Simon gives me the rematch we will probably fight under his promoter. Eye of the Tiger are the only ones who seem to be doing shows in Canada right now.”

Kean and Carman had a rematch in 2019 in which Kean was able to avenge his loss to Carman. Kean was then scheduled to fight Surmacz last year but that ended up getting scrapped. Braidwood would love a shot at all three, but if he has to take on someone else to get one of those names then he’s more than willing to do it.

“I would love to come out to come back and I’d love to get down. Simon and Dylan had their rematch and it’d be nice to get in there and mix it up with Dylan too. It would be nice to get a fight in between but like I said, things don’t always go your way. Stan Surmacz Ahumada and I were supposed to fight to the Canadian title back in April but obviously you know things didn’t work but I don’t let these things deter me from what I want and that is to be number one in Canada and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get there. If I got to fight other dudes to get to the dude that I want to fight, then that’s the way it’s gotta be.”
