Change comes with time and patienceĀ and 2013 was a year of change for Adonis Stevenson.

In late March, Stevenson fought and beat the only man to hold a victory over him, Darnell Boone. The two first met in 2010 when Boone shocked Stevenson with a second round TKO victory. At the time Boone had a record of 15-16-2 and Stevenson seemed to be fighting a stepping stone opponent. Stevenson learned from that loss and scored a knockout victory over Boone within the 6th round of their rematch.

Stevenson’s second fight of the year would take place 3 months later and prove to be the biggest fight of his career when he took on light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson and destroyed Dawson before the first round was even half way over. The victory was sweet for Stevenson and his post fight celebration in the ring had boxing fans talking about it for days.

In September once beaten former world champion Tavarious Cloud was on a mission to bounce back from his loss to Bernard Hopkins and what better opponent to do it against besides the newly crowd hard hitting champion. In this fight Stevenson showed to the world that he is not just a puncher and he does possess boxing skills. Stevenson was able to outwork and punish Cloud to the point where Cloud could not continue any longer.

Stevenson capped off the year two weeks ago when he fought Tony Bellow who was outclassed and beaten by a very determined Stevenson within 6 rounds.

2013 was indeed a year for change for Stevenson who was one of the most hated fighters in boxing due to his past but his in ring performances have turned him into a must see fighter. His hunger since becoming a world champion has not faded and in 2014 Stevenson will look to take on the biggest name fighter yet, Bernard Hopkins. Should a fight with Hopkins not materialize there are two other Canadian fighters that would make for a huge event in Montreal, Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute who are set to face off in January.
