Adonis-Stevenson-2012In the light heavyweight division, there are two fighters that stand atop the mountain, Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev. Both men are talented power punchers who can box, brawl and put on great fights. Most important of all, both men are world champions. So when will they step into the ring and face each other to prove who the true king of the division is?

For the past year there has been plenty of talk about what could be the biggest fight in the light heavyweight division in about a decade. Of course, when the time came to make the fight, it was never signed. Now, we may be on the verge of seeing the two finally square off.

Stevenson stated prior to Kovalev’s fight with Jean Pascal that he wants to face the winner but first he had to get past Sakio Bika. After Stevenson’s victory over Bika it seemed that he would be criticized for whomever he decided to fight next if he passed up another chance to fight Kovalev.  A potential bout with Bernard Hopkins or Pascal may buy him a little bit more time, but it’s clear that the fans will not be happy until Kovalev-Stevenson is made.

Stevenson has already begun going after Kovalev stating that Kovalev and his promoter Main Events has avoided the potential fight in the past and that Kovalev should stop ducking him.

“Hey Sergey Kovalev,” said Stevenson in an online post of him in a Rolls Royce. “If you want to get this kind of money and be the REAL champ it has to go to a purse bid and it has to go through ME. Don’t be scared. I’ve been waiting for this fight too. All the fans can see right through you and Main Events. Don’t duck ME!”‪
