If there is anyone who can be a crossover star in boxing, it’s Adrien Broner. Already proven on two networks that he is one that the fans like to watch win or lose, Adrien Broner makes his transition to the biggest stage in his career on prime time network television. The self-proclaimed “Mr. HBO” to “Mr. Showtime”, now has his sights set on being “Mr. NBC”.
Broner takes on John Molina on Saturday on NBC. Premier Boxing Champions makes its debut this Saturday with boxing making its return to the network in prime time for the first time in over 30 years. Broner knows it’s important, now more than ever to not only make a statement, but to entertain his new audience.
“Entertainment is everything,” Broner said to RingTV.com. . “I’m definitely not just a professional boxer; I’m a professional entertainer as well, and I’m always here to put on a show.”
Being on NBC means a lot not only for the boxers but to boxing, in general. Much of the future of boxing could be at stake depending on how Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champion Series does over multiple networks, including the major one, NBC, CBS, ESPN, and Showtime. Broner also knows what’s at stake.
“It means a lot to fight on NBC,” Broner states. “I can get some new fans and hopefully I can get more people to like me than dislike me.”
Sticking to the moniker, Broner hopes to put his stamp on the term, “Mr. NBC”.
“I am Mr. NBC and I’ll be on NBC all this year. Four times you will see me in the ring on NBC, and I’ll fight anybody who is willing to grab that rope and hang themselves.”
