With it being speculated that a scintillating light-welterweight clash between Mike Alvarado and Ruslan Provodnikov is to take place on the 19th October, it is only right that we analyze the prospect.

32 year old Alvarado holds a record of 34 wins and 1 loss. His 1 loss to Brandon Rios has since been avenged in his last outing via a unanimous decision. Alvarado is a fighter who looks to come forward and dominate his opponent.

Alvarado’s rivalry with Brandon Rios has really catapulted him into the public’s eye. The first fight was a brilliant one with both fighters really going for it. Alvarado was ahead in the fight before being hurt by a vicious right. The fight was stopped in the 7th. It was a fantastic display by both men and was voted as 2012 Fight of the Year by Sports Illustrated.

For Alvarado to come back from such a defeat and beat the man responsible for taking his unbeaten record in the very next fight showed everything that you need to know about the man. He has guts and believes in himself. Despite Alvarado winning this fight it is Rios that is to get the big payday and fight a legend in Manny Pacquiao. This is a strange outcome but one that is down to the on-going politics involved in boxing.

Alvarado’s opponent Ruslan Provodnikov is also a fighter who looks to come forward and pile on the pressure making this fight a great prospect. Provodnikov aged 29 holds a record of 22 wins and 2 losses.

Provodnikov was very impressive last time out despite losing. He was in against Timothy Bradley, who is a man who has beaten Manny Pacquiao, Devon Alexander and Lamont Peterson. Bradley was pushed to the limit by Provodnikov in a great fight. The fight consisted of Provodnikov coming forward and looking to exchange blows and Bradley at time falling into the trap and getting involved when it wouldn’t favor him to do so.

Provodnikov showed real grit and determination and was very close to winning the fight. Provodnikov even floored Bradley in the 12th before the win was handed to Bradley with the scores of 115-112, 114-113 and 114-113. The scores show just how close the fight was and just what a good performance Provodnikov put up.

All of this bodes well for a real fan-favorite type fight with 2 proper fighters going at each other for every minute of every round. This should be a top fight and will be really interesting to see who comes through as the winner is sure to get a big name next.
