Carl-Froch-left-and-Andre-007The WBA has ordered a rematch between the two best Super Middleweights in the world. As per the organization, Carl Froch, 33-2 (24), the WBA “Regular” Champion must fight Andre Ward, 27-0 (14). Per the organization’s rules, the two have 30 days to negotiate a fight that must take place in 120 days.

The two met in 2012 in Atlantic City, NJ in the finals of the Showtime Super Six Tournament. In that fight, Ward beat Froch comfortably earning a decision. Since then the two have taken different paths. Froch revived his career with a victory over Lucian Bute; a fighter Ward said did not deserve a fight with him. Then Froch took on his countrymen George Groves twice, knocking him out in both fights. The first had a controversial stoppage that led to a rematch in front of 80,000 fans in Wembley Stadium. In that fight, Froch left no doubt knocking out Groves with a vicious right hand.

Froch became the number 1 fighter in his division as Ward sat on the sideline. Ward beat Chad Dawson and Edwin Rodriguez convincingly but then went to litigation with his former promoter, Goosen-Tutor. He has not fought since the end of 2013 and still has no return date in sight. He is now a part of Jay-Z’ Roc Nation Sports, who have proven willingness to put up big money for fights.

Froch wants his rematch with Ward in the United Kingdom, but Ward has not obliged to his request in the past. Froch is waiting for a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in Las Vegas while Ward has no fight on the horizon either.
