Andy Ruiz Headlines Top Rank/Iron Boy Card

    ivp-boxing-ruiz-getting-stronger-with-every-fi-001On the heels of its sell-out July event, Iron Boy Promotions teams up with Top Rank Boxing once again to present Iron Boy 15 live at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, and televised on Unimas’ Solo Boxeo Tecate. The stacked card includes several up-and-coming Top Rank prospects, as well as some of the best undefeated fighters that Arizona has to offer.

    Valley resident Trevor McCumby (16-0, 12KO) will be featured in a six round bout. McCumby is coming off a unanimous decision win versus Michael Gbenga (19-16, 19KO), which took place at Iron Boy 14 in July. McCumby is excited to once again be showcasing his talents in front of his friends and family. “It was great fighting in front of my fans here in Phoenix. I almost felt like I had more of an adrenaline rush, hearing my fans and family there and cheering for me. I like Iron Boy, and the way they put everything together.” McCumby said of fighting at the Celebrity Theatre, “The venue is really cool because any seat in the house is a great seat. I hope all my supporters and fans come out. I’m going to put on a great show, and it’s going to be a really fun night.” McCumby faces Louisiana’s Martin Verdin (20-18-2, 11KO).

    Shane Mosley, Jr. (2-0, 2KO), son of former three-division World Champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley will make an appearance on the card, and by joined in the ring by his father.

    Two-time Lithuanian Olympian Egidijus Kavaliauskas (7-0, 6KO) will also fight on the Phoenix card. Kharvov, Ukraine’s Oleksandr Gvozdyk (2-0, 1KO) faces Lamont Williams (5-5-1, 2KO) in a light heavyweight bout. Gvozdyk earned a bronze medal for Ukraine in the 2012 Olympics. Both Kavaliauskas and Gvozdyk are trained by award-winning trainer Robert Garcia in Oxnard. Said Garcia, “I’m glad we’re finally getting back to Arizona. I fought there a couple times when I was a fighter, and it’s great to get back to Arizona with my fighters.”

    Other Top Rank prospects that will be featured on the Phoenix card include welterweight Konstantin Ponomarev (24-0, 12 KO), who hails from Miass, Russia. Ponomarev trains in Los Angeles, California with Jesse Reid, Sr.

    Some of Arizona’s top talent will also appear on the card. Francisco C De Vaca (7-0, 4KO) will be making his eighth appearance on an Iron Boy card. Trained by Roberto Alcazar, who notably trained Oscar De La Hoya during his professional career. Vaca is amassing a strong following in the Phoenix area, with his fan-friendly, exciting style of fighting.

    WBC USNBC Bantamweight Champion and fan favorite Alexis Santiago will make his second title defense on the card. Santiago trains in Las Vegas at the Mayweather Gym.

    Newly signed Iron Boy Promotions fighter Victor “El Nino” Castro (11-0, 5KO) will face Pablo Becerra (7-5, 6KO). Victor is currently training at Magnifico Boxing Gym under the tutelage of three-time World Champion Israel Vazquez. Castro has been sparring with Leon Spinks III at the South Gate gym to prepare for the September 20th bout. When in Phoenix, Castro trains with Armando Lopez at Sonny’s Boxing Gym in Avondale.

    Carlos “The Chosen One” Castro (5-0, 2KO) will be making his ring return for the first time in a year, and will face Jair Quintero (2-0-1, 0KO). Rounding out the card, Edgar Brito (2-0-1, 1KO) will tentatively face Luis Montano (2-0, 1KO), and Daniel Garcia will be making his professional debut versus Albuquerque’s Michael Quezada (0-2). Cameron Dunkin managed Alexis Zazueta (3-0, 3KO) will also make an appearance on the card.

    Iron Boy Promotions will hold an open media workout at Iron Boy Gym (4238 S. 37th Street in Phoenix) on Tuesday, September 16th at 2 p.m. Food will be available for members of the media. The official weigh-in will be held at Crescent Crown in Mesa, Arizona on Friday, September 19th at 2p.m.
