Anthony JoshuaAnthony Joshua(13-0, 13KO’s) will seek to claim the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title when he takes on fellow undefeated fighter Gary Cornish(21-0, 12KO’s) at London’s O2 Arena on August 12th, and feels world honors are not too far away. Cornish, promoted by Kellie Maloney, ought to represent the toughest assignment of Joshua’s career.

Speaking with Sky Sports HQ and reported on Skysports.com, Joshua said he feels he has all the necessary tools to get to the very top on the heavyweight mountain, and that he aims to reach it’s peak within the next twelve-to-eighteen months.

“Right now, I’m no good, but I have the ability to be exceptional. I’ve got good height, good strength, got a good head on my shoulders, got a good team around me, so that is everything I need.”

“My opportunity will come soon and to put a date on it, I think sometime near the end of 2016 or sometime in 2017.”

Joshua’s Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has put all his company’s might behind a likeable young man who looks certain to become the first Brit to wear a heavyweight crown since David Haye lifted the WBA belt in 2009.

There is always a chance that the hype may interrupt practical progression, though, and Joshua seemed well aware of this as he reminded us he was still in the burgeoning stages of a promising career.

“It’s just about me applying myself. Right now, being 13 and 0 doesn’t say anything to me. I just need to apply everything, knuckle down and then start peaking at my ability.”

The boxing terrain is often incalculable and even a talented fighter like Joshua needs the favour by circumstance to gain success, but if all goes to plan there is a strong chance he will indeed become a champion. If his steadfast attitude holds true after that, a long reign man also ensue.
