The first fight in the HBO version of SHOBox pitted two prospects in the welterweight division featuring Canadian welterweight Antonin Decarie against Newark New Jersey’s own Alex Perez. Had there not been an injury to Zsolt Erdei, the bout with Isaac Chilemba would have been the first bout televised on the HBO Boxing After Dark Card. However, in boxing things like that happen and you have to move on.

That’s What HBO did and so did Alex Perez, who skipped a fight in early September for this opportunity.  From the onset of the bout, it seemed like Decarie wanted to be the aggressor popping in and out, moving, jabbing, landing the right hand to the head of Perez. To Decarie that was something they worked on in camp. “We had a great training camp, the right hand was something we worked on, i knew i could land it, once i started i know i could hurt him,” stated Decarie.

It seemed like every round was a mirror image from that first round. Minus the fourth round where both guys traded massive shots, Decarie did what he wanted and did it easily. To some in press row it seemed like Perez was dry and just wasn’t himself not throwing enough and looking out of it. So it come to no one’s surprise that Perez was vomiting the night before and not feeling well.

Well in the 6th round, he wasn’t feeling well, as Decarie stunned Perez knocking him down with a big right hand as he had done for all the previous rounds. As Perez got up, Decarie attacked and attacked well, going in with two hands, stunning and rocking Perez’s head back multiple times until the referee stepped in and called a halt to the bout just seconds before the end of the 6th round giving Decarie the stoppage he was looking for pushing his record to 27-1 with 7 KO’s.

Decarie was thankful for his opportunity and stated, “Credit to Alex (Perez)  for taking the fight but this is what i expected, and i want any welterweight and i expect to be back on HBO.”
