MayweatherIn the aftermath of Mayweather-Pacquiao the complaints and excuses from casual boxing fans are filling social media websites about what transpired on Saturday have quickly become annoying to many people.

Former junior middleweight champion Austin “No Doubt ” Trout has sounded off towards the casual fans that have targeted Mayweather. Trout feels that Mayweather is not the one that the fans should be angry at and should instead be mad at Pacquiao for not being as active as he usually has been in the past.

“How are people mad at Floyd for doing what he wanted to do to win,” said Trout via social media. “Be mad at Pacquiao for not doing what he was supposed to do to win!!! Also, if you think Pacman won the fight, then you just need to learn more about boxing by watching more boxing. As annoying as ‘casual fans’ might be, if we want our sport to thrive like it once was then we need all the ‘casual fans’ we can fit into the ‘boxing bandwagon’.”

Trout believes that the casual fans are the ones that can make boxing a mainstream sport once again especially with boxing being on basic cable channels. Casual fans can help boxing compete with other sports.

“I see a lot of true boxing fans telling all the casuals to go back in their hole blah blah blah. NO stay out of your boxing hole and add to this great sport of boxing for the sake of boxing. It’s not like ‘real boxing fans’ are some kind to fighters anyway, they are super quick to call someone a bum, has been, track star etc. So as a fighter I welcome you casual fans with open arms and know you are the real reason why boxing can be mainstream and have the resurgence to put us up with football and basketball as a sport.”

As a hardcore boxing fan, I can get annoyed with the casual fans but Trout is right about the casuals being a catalyst to push the sport to greater heights. Any media is good media and any fan recognizing the sport and sharing with others is good for the sport.
