Rumor’s are swirling around about whether or not Amir Khan is a free agent in boxing and if he will or will not return to Golden Boy Promotions who have transformed Khan from a Euro star to a worldwide star.

Managing partner and future Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins spoke to ThaBoxingVoice.com about the situation and about Golden Boy Promotions very successful run in the past couple years.

“There’s always a situation where nobody is into a contract for life,” said Hopkins. “So there’s always negotiations this year, next year, whatever. But these things always happen and Golden Boy will put the best offer and we are the promoters of this era. I’m biased but I have a lot of people that would hear this or see this and would agree with me whether they want to or not. Whatever they [Khan’s team] do will be in the best interest of Amir Khan and then Golden Boy you know I’m sure will have great efforts to keep him with us. It’s like every fighter that we feel that can that can be of use to the stable of Golden Boy and also we be of use to them so it’s a 50-50 thing.”

Golden Boy has a deep talented stable in boxing and if you want to fight the top fighters in those divisions, it is easier to be with the same promoter.

“I think most fighters that are with us now are happy with us,” said Hopkins. “You watch all of the fights in the last year or two or within less than a year, you have seen great fights and that’s because they are easy to make when you have both fighters attention. When you have both fighters business and so you will see the bigger fights and when you have things in that order where you don’t have to deal with so many people that do things different in a way that is not going to help boxing. It is not going to help exciting fights being made because this guy is overmatching or this promoter or this entity is overmatching this guy nobody really cares. So you wanna see fights that’s 50-50. That’s threats. That there is chance and risk there.”

Khan’s decision will have a big impact on his career. Should he decide to jump ship and turn to rival top Rank then his dreams of fighting Floyd Mayweather are pretty much flushed down the toilet.
