Top Rank Inc.’s Bob Arum made a trek to the UK this weekend for multiple reasons. He met with Eddie Hearn to discuss two potential bouts with The Matchroom Sports stable. Arum is trying to negotiate a potential welterweight unification bout between his fighter Tim Bradley and Hearn’s fighter Kell Brook. He’s also trying to stage a fight between his fighter Nonito Donaire and Hearn’s fighter Scott Quigg in the Jr. Featherweight division.
He also met with Amir Khan to discuss a potential bout between Khan and his fighter Manny Pacquiao.
‘This kid Amir Khan keeps shooting his mouth off about Manny Pacquiao. I can arrange for Khan to fight Pacquiao, Arum said to the Daily Mail in the UK.
Arum would like to stage such a fight in the Middle East. At first Arum proposed Dubai but Arum says he’s eyeing the Middle East or Las Vegas for a potential bout.
‘He’ll fight early next year and probably in the Middle East. Vegas is a possibility, but more likely in the Middle East. It won’t be in Dubai, but it will be in the Middle East. If not, we’ll do it in Vegas.’
Not sure how this fight will come to fruition because Amir Khan is still advised and managed by Al Haymon. With the difficulties of getting a Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight done, one would think the same as Mayweather like Khan is managed by Haymon, But Arum says Pacquiao will fight Khan.
‘One thing’s for sure, Pacquiao is not ducking Khan,’ Arum said. ‘Pacquiao will fight him. I don’t know if Khan will fight Pacquiao, but it’s available. Amir Khan has been begging Mayweather for a fight and now he can get a major fight. I’m not a hard guy to deal with. I’m not going to mess them around. Manny’s not going to fight this year.”
