Ever since Tim Bradley beat Juan Manuel Marquez last October and escalated himself to the consensus number 3 pound for pound fighter in the world, the wonder was about the length of Bradley’s Top Rank’s contract and if he would move on to Golden Boy to possibly land a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight. That speculation was put to rest as Bob Arum announced the Manny Pacquiao-Tim Bradley rematch for April 12th of this year and with it, a Tim Bradley contract extension.
With Mayweather having 2 years and 4 more fights left in his Showtime contract and possibly his career, which all but rules Bradley out of a possible Mayweather fight. Bradley however feels that if he beats Pacquiao and Mayweather wants it to happen, it can.
“This is what I say about that, I say that now we know, that I’m on a different path, Floyd Mayweather is on a different path. Mayweather says himself, I’m my own boss and I do what I want to do. If Floyd Mayweather, being the 800 lb. guerrilla in boxing wants to fight me, he needs to get on my path. He can do it. If he wants to fight me, he’s his own boss; he can do what he wants to do,” Bradley told ThaBoxingVoice.com
Bradley left his previous promoter Gary Shaw for greener pastures with Top Rank. You could argue that Top Rank has done right by Bradley. Skills aside, Bradley has earned 7 figure pay days each time he went out to fight even though his drawing power is not on the level of Mayweather, Pacquiao, Cotto, Canelo, or even Marquez. Bradley likes the way Top Rank has treated him and that’s the main reason he decided to remain with Top Rank.
“I resigned with Top Rank because its family. A lot of peoples is like you could have done this and that but there’s a lot of uncertainty in doing this and that. I have 4 kids and a wife; it’s too much uncertainty for me. If you’re comfortable at a job you’re not going to leave that job for the same dollar especially if you don’t know how that company operates. I’m cool here. I got all my loyalties and I got all the things here. They respect me they know me. Top rank is that company, they respect me they know me,” explained Bradley.
Along with never working with Golden Boy for a possible fight with Mayweather, Bradley feels that there was never any guarantee that he’d even land a Mayweather fight if he was to jump ship to the other side of the cold war.
“I don’t know anyone on the other side (Golden Boy) or what they have to offer me. There’s too much uncertainty. There’s no guarantee that I’d fight Floyd Mayweather. Every time they do a poll, you don’t see my name on the poll in the Mayweather sweepstakes. There no guarantee I’m fighting Mayweather. But at the end of the day Mayweather being his own boss wants to come see me, I’ll be right there waiting with open arms.”
