Brandon Rios has made it clear that he want’s to fight WBO Jr. welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2 16KO’s).  However, his promoter Bob Arum has stated in a recent interview that he is not confident in Rios making the 140lb jr. welterweight limit.  Regardless of these statements, Rios says that he still plans on campaigning at 140lbs.  He was quoted in a recent interview saying “I’ve been at 140, I only went to 147 pounds to fight Pacquiao.  That’s the only reason why I went up”.  Rios said that he’s already been back in the gym for a week and has been doing light workouts to keep the ring rust off because he may be fighting again in June.  Perhaps Rios wants to show his promoter that he is serious about campaigning at the 140lb weight limit and is hungry for the Provodnikov fight.

However, if Rios doesn’t get a dance partner for June the boxing public will always be happy to see another Rios v Alvarado fight regardless of what the outcome may be in Alvarado’s upcoming fight with Juan Manuel Marquez on May 17th.  Regarding a potential trilogy with Alvarado Rios said “It was a great two fights that we had, why not? The third one will be even better”.  However, for the fans the good news is neither Provodnikov or Rios have a date or an opponent as of yet and it’s still possible that they might fight each other next if Rios can convince Arum he can make the 140lb limit.
