1399174382000-USP-Boxing-Adrien-Broner-vs-Carlos-MolinaFightHype.com has an interview with Adrien Broner (29-1, 22 KO’s) ahead of his upcoming March 7th fight with John Molina Jr. (27-5, 22 KO’s) on the series premier of Al Haymon’s “Premier Boxing Champions” (PBC). I can’t help but notice how respectful Broner has been in the lead up to this fight. With a guy like Molina in front of him, you would think that he would have plenty of fodder for trash-talk but Broner was sort of complimentary in his own way.

“He’s a warrior. He’s a guy that can uh… I’ll call him the uh… hmm… My nickname for’em, he’s a punchin’ bag that can win. :You know um, he’s a punching bag that hit back. He’s a punching bag that got power.”

He went on to point out what separates John Molina from the pack when it comes to brawlers out there.

“You know, you got these guys that can take a lot of punishment but they can’t give it. He can take a lot of punishment and give it back. He’s a deadly fighter. If you’re not on your Ps and Qs, you know uh, it only takes one second, and that fight’ll be changed.”

As shocking as those comments are, it got even crazier. When Broner was asked about Molina’s first round knockout loss to Antonio DeMarco, Broner took the high road once again.

“I don’t even count that fight. He got caught with a good shot… to me it was a very immature [sic] stoppage, and I’m not just saying that cause I’m trying to hype my fighter up… It was a very immature [sic] stoppage, and I don’t know what would have happened if that fight went on.”

When asked about John Molina Jr.’s recent performance in a loss to Matthysse, Broner continued to say all the right things.

“He showed tremendous heart… he showed he could hit, but you know…” and then he grinned like he may have had more to say but he stopped himself.

That was the tone of the entire interview. No braggadocio and no profanities. I’m going to include one final quote of Broner talking up Molina because it is just so baffling.

“He’s not just a walk over. He’s going to come to fight, and he’s going to try to overcome this obstacle just like he did to Hank Lundy and Mickey Bey.”Adrien Broner

If this were any other fighter, we wouldn’t even notice the extremely diplomatic tone of the interview but this is amateur porn star Adrien “About Billions” Broner here. This is the man that told Paulie Malignaggi the following:

“I want you to keep your day job because after this you’re not gonna be relevant in boxing unless it’s with a microphone.”

This is the same Adrien Broner that said of Marcos Maidana:

“I’m going to beat his ass… I’m going to beat his ass for sure.”

This is the Adrien Broner that, after a unanimous decision win over Carlos Molina claimed:

“I just beat the (expletive) out of a Mexican.”

And all of those quotes came from the same exact man that said of Emmanuel Taylor:

“I really don’t know how to say it. I could say it in English, I could say it in Bronish – I’m just going to kick your (expletive).”

Those are just a small percentage of examples of Adrien Broner having plenty of “interesting” things to say about his last four opponents. He’s built a reputation for building fights on trash talk and then continuing it once the fight ends. It wasn’t an act, Broner never seemed to know where his “off” button was. Alas, Al Haymon seems to have found it. Is it a coincidence that he happens to be on the best behavior of his career in the lead up to the inaugural PBC broadcast on NBC?

It seems to me like the old Adrien Broner didn’t fit in with Al Haymon’s vision for PBC, and now he’s being forced to change. The true test will be if he beats Molina. Will Broner be able to control himself in a post-fight interview with the whole world watching him on NBC?

You can witness Adrien Broner on his best behavior against John Molina, Jr. on March 7th, live on NBC.
