Kell BrookKell Brook has been looking for a big fight ever since he won his IBF Welterweight title from Shawn ‘Showtime’ Porter, but so far his title defences have been all but big, fighting against the likes of Jo Jo Dan and Frankie Gavin.

On Oct. 24th, Brook will undoubtedly take a step up from that previous competition taking on hard pressed Diego Chaves in Brooks hometown of Sheffield, England. While Chaves is surely a step up in competition, Brook seemed to be looking for bigger game calling out Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley before locking down this fight with Chaves. Even Tha Boxing Voice’s own Victor Salazar seemed to be a little underwhelmed by who was chosen to fight Special K.

“Chaves isn’t bad but don’t bring up names like Marquez and Bradley and up with Chaves,” Salazar said on Twitter.

A moniker that has been following Brook for a while now is that he has called out plenty fighters but end up fighting lesser opponents. Brook’s back and forth between Amir Khan can be used as an example as Brook has been calling Khan out for two years now.

Brook doesn’t seem to be overlooking his opponent though as he knows Chaves is a tough competitor and been in the ring with some of the recent elite tier fighters.

“Chaves is a rough, tough, durable fighter who is very dangerous.” “He is coming off a draw with Tim Bradley, was ahead on the cards against Brandon Rios until he was disqualified and gave Keith Thurman a solid fight, so we know what level he has mixed at and how good he is,” Brook told The Guardian.

Chaves has won just once in his last four fights which came against Juan Alberto Godboy, so beating Brook would unequivocally be Chaves’s biggest victory. Obviously that won’t be an easy feat, Brook is undefeated in 35 fights, he is the better technical fighter, and the hometown advantage that Brook carries will definitely be a factor in this fight.

Should Kell Brook get past Chaves then perhaps we will see Brook take on the likes of Tim Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez, or even Amir Khan as the boxing fans in London have been clamoring for that fight. Brook vs. Chaves on Oct. 24th is going to be an interesting one, don’t miss it.
