Bruno Escalante Hopes For Big Fights After April 5th

2013 Northern California fighter of the year, Bruno Escalante (12-1-1 6KOs), returns to the ring to defend his IBA junior bantamweight title after his first round KO over veteran Lorenzo Trejo last month. Escalante will face Victor Ruiz (12-2 9KOs) in the main event on April 5th at Cache Creek Casino and Resort in Brooks, CA.

Escalante, whom is on the rise to stardom and could very well, be in the mix to face, Zou Shiming, somewhere in the not so distance future, though to Escalante it is all about facing Victor Ruiz in the present. For Escalante, Ruiz presents a dangerous new challenge power and confidence, as arguably Escalante has never faced someone who had both attributes working together. Ruiz, who recently rebounded from his second career loss to Francisco Rodriguez Jr. in a competitive fight, demolished a debuting Jamie Diaz in September of the past year.

Escalante will now face his second highly ranked foe within five months as well as continuing a trend started last year of being highly active. Escalante is on a road to a big fight yet one can’t overlook Ruiz as his style is similar to the only man to beat Escalante, Matthew Villanueva. For Escalante, this is not just a test, but a chance to show the public that he is ready for the big time.

“I have dreams of making it to the top,” Escalante continued. “A victory against a tough opponent like Ruiz will get me one step closer to that big fight. My trainers Brian Schwartz and Mike Bazzel have a nice game plan that I will execute. I’ll be ready for anything Ruiz brings. The time is now to step up my game and take my career to the next level.”

This bout is being promoted by Don Chargin Productions & Paco Presents. Tickets priced at $65, $95 and $125, are on sale now and can be purchased at,, and The weigh-in will take place at Cache Creek Casino Resort on Friday April 4 starting at 3 p.m.
