imagesThis recent week Golden Boy Promotions was graceful enough to hold an event where they were passing out turkeys for those in need of the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon one of those helping out, was recently crowned IBF Bantamweight Champion, Randy “Matador” Caballero.

“Being here is something amazing, I thank God that Golden Boy called me out here to be part of this event. Its something big, its something that I want to do in my hometown and give back to my valley that’s always been there.”

Caballero, (22-0, 13 KOs) has a very sizable fan base in his hometown of Indio, California, as well as his current stay city of Coachella. He explains how the support has been for him leading up to his world title victory. “To me, I believe the support and the fans is what makes you in the sport of boxing. If you don’t have a big fan base, you’re really not going to get that far. They’re the people that keep getting your name out there and pushing it around the world. Thank God I have people who follow me and its something great, and I think the fans are what makes a person in the sport. Thank God that my valley has been supporting me since day one, when we fight at Fantasy we sell that place out and like I said its the most amazing feeling ever.”

On the topic of fighting at Fantasy Springs, we touched based on when the fans could expect to see Randy back in the ring for his first world title defense. “They’re talking about February 27th at Fantasy Springs. Which would be amazing because I haven’t fought there in almost a year. To be back in my hometown is the greatest feeling ever.”

The last time Caballero fought at Fantasy Springs, was in July of last year when he fought Miguel Robles in a 10 round about that resulted in a 7th round knockout in favor of Caballero.
