Retirement. In boxing you see fighters come and go often but how many of them go at the right time? For many fighters they decide to walk away when they are old and worn down and have taken several beatings.

That is not the case here. Paul “P-Mac” MacKenzie (4-0-1, 2 KO’s) has decided to walk away from boxing at the moment but does not rule out the possibility of a return. He is only 21 years old so there is always time. MacKenzie realized that his passion is no longer there. It is a smart move on his part because it can get very dangerous if a fighter lacks that passion and determination come fight night.
“I want to announce that I am retiring from Boxing after my fight on Friday September 13th. I love boxing but I don’t have the passion anymore. I am only 21 years old and who’s to say in a couple years I don’t find that passion again. I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to my Dad, My Coach, ALL of my Fans and Friends that have supported me over the years even as an Amateur and also a BIG THANK YOU to ALL of my Sponsors who have stuck with me and shown their support. I look forward to ALL OF YOU supporting me for my last fight,” MacKenzie announced via Facebook.

Coaches know that fighters come and go. Some fighters change trainers like they change underwear. It hurts a coach when that fighter is very talented like MacKenzie is. Sterling Craig has been with MacKenzie for a long time and the two share a bond that’s goes farther than boxing and the loyalty between the two has never been tested. “It is with great sadness that I announce the retirement of Paul “P-Mac” McKenzie from the sport of boxing. His last fight will be at the Shaw (Conference Centre) on Sept. 13th in Edmonton. I hope in time he will reconsider, but as his coach I stand behind his decision. Boxing is a mental sport, and if your mind is not in it then it’s time to let it go. Paul is a great young man, and he will always be family to me and my wife,” Craig said during the announcement.
