For over three months, ThaBoxingVoice.com has been hot on the trail of a possible showdown in Las Vegas between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Carl Froch. Everything seemed to be inching closer to a March 28th date. But being almost 8 weeks away and no fight announcement, one has to wonder what has happened?

Chavez aligned himself with power manager Al Haymon, while Bob Arum/Top Rank contest that Chavez still owes Top Rank one more fight. Yesterday, Froch revealed that he had an elbow injury which would keep him out until the summer, so the March 28th is out the window.
Chavez then announced that he would be fighting Andrez Fonfora on April 18th on his social media accounts. Whether that will happen or not is contingent on what happens in the courtroom between Chavez and Arum as Arum tells Steve Kim of BoxingScene.com, “We’ll see Chavez in court.”
So now what happens with Froch? Froch had an IBF mandatory due with James Degale, but with the shoulder injury the IBF will likely give him an extension. Rumors also surfaced about a possible showdown between Froch and the legend Bernard Hopkins, which Froch detracted today.
“I’m not really interested. Froch told The Telegraph.
His promoter Eddie Hearn feels Froch-Hopkins is a huge fight, especially because of the rivalry between Froch and Welshmen Joe Calzaghe who defeated Hopkins years ago. But Hearn says that will ultimately fall on Froch’s fight preference.
“The focus is still on Chavez in June, but I think the Froch-Hopkins fight would be massive. The choice will come down to what Carl wants to do, though.”
