molina-bundradge (1)In just 1 day, Cornelius Bundrage will get a crack at winning back a world title he once held before dropping it to Ishe Smith back in February of 2013, when he faces IBF Junior Middleweight Champion Carlos Molina on Saturday. Bundrage lost a majority decision to Smith in Detroit, and then we saw Smith drop a split decision to Molina in his first defense ever on the Mayweather-Canelo undercard.

Molina, who is a tough fighter to deal with, because of his style, was supposed to defend his championship against Jermall Charlo in March on the Canelo-Angulo undercard, but on fight week, we saw Molina be detained by immigration officers over a old charge and eventually he was expedited back to Mexico for being here illegally. As hard as they tried to get Molina out of the Las Vegas prison for his title defense, it simply wasn’t happening and the fight was cancelled.

Since the incident Molina has been inactive. Bundrage, took almost a year layoff, before coming back this past January and beating Joey Hernandez by unanimous decision. Now eight months later Brundage is facing Molina for a shot at his old championship. The fight will not be on U.S soil as mentioned earlier, Molina is not licensed to fight here and instead will be defending in Cancún, Mexico. For anyone who is looking forward to this, you can expect a full 12 round fight, as neither guy has the potential to win the fight by knockout. Molina only has a recorded 6 knockouts in 22 fights, while Bundrage has 19 in a recorded 32 bouts. The fight has all the makings of being a long fight, as Molina will produce a not so easy style to figure out by Brundage. He gave James Kirkland a series of problems before being disqualified on a ridiculous call and completely outclassed Ishe Smith. Bundrage, should be no different as he struggled with Ishe.

It’ll be interesting to see how Molina does perform though with all that has happened in recent months, though it was long ago, it may have some affect if not, none, to his performance. Bundrage is coming back after an eight month layoff and a year layoff before that. Molina is no easy task and is not expected to drop his title in his first defense let alone in his own backyard of Mexico.
