Claressa Shields has done so much for women’s boxing in such a short period of time. Whether you love her or hate her there is no denying what she has done. Boxing fans on the other hand are divided amongst two groups: what has the fighter accomplished and what have you done lately?
Shields’s most recent accomplishment is winning the undisputed championship titles at 154 lbs. while still being undisputed at 160 lbs. Many fans have gotten over that and want the next step for Shields. It’s either a fight against Jessica McCaskill for the 147 lb. undisputed championship or a grudge match to avenge Sheilds only loss in boxing which happened in the amateurs and that was against Savannah Marshall.
Marshall is undefeated as a pro and right now is viewed by many as the only person that will be able to defeat Shields and humble her. Shields, on the other hand, believes that they are just hyping Marshall up the same way they did Christina Hammer.
“I love when I beat up hype trains, especially when they are from other countries,” Tweeted Shields. “They building Marshall up like they did hammer and I always have to remind them. I am the head not the tail.” Shields is up for the fight against Marshall but she wants Marshall’s promoter Eddie Hearn to pay her well for the fight. Should the fight take place it will be Shields’s highest payday and be viewed as the toughest test and be given the most interest by fans so far in her career.
