Miguel Cotto - Saul AlvarezThe highly-anticipated super fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and former undisputed light-middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will take place in the fall, although a specific date and venue have yet to be decided.

Earlier on Wednesday, we mentioned that Cotto and Canelo were at odds over the actual weight for the catch-weight. Cotto requested 155 lbs., while Canelo requested 156. But, ESPN’s Dan Rafael provided the folks with some great news.

The weight is no longer an issue as both sides have agreed to a 155 lb. catch-weight, which is two pounds less than what Cotto requested for his most recent fight against Australian Daniel Geale, and five pounds less than the middleweight limit of 160.

Since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a one-sided affair in September 2013, Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KO’s), has looked mighty impressive – defeating the likes of Alfredo Angulo, Erislandy Lara, and James Kirkland.

Cotto (40-4, 32 KO’s), under the tutelage of Freddie Roach, has blown out Delvin Rodriguez, Sergio Martinez, and Daniel Geale in phenomenal displays.

As far as the weight is concerned, both sides are on even footing. In the Angulo and Lara fights, Canelo weighed-in at 155 lbs. On the other hand, Miguel Cotto also weighed-in at 155 when he defeated Martinez (now retired) to claim the WBC belt.

As we reported earlier Wednesday, the two dates on the table are Nov. 7 and Nov. 21 in Las Vegas for the clash

If the fight takes place on Nov. 7, the MGM Grand will likely serve as the venue. If Nov. 21 is selected, the Thomas & Mack Center, will likely be the host.

It’s been close to two years since the Thomas & Mack Center has hosted a fight; the last time being in October 2013 when Timothy Bradley out-boxed Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez, who was coming off a sensational knockout victory over Manny Pacquiao.
