Miguel CottoMuch of the talk at the final press conference of Miguel Cotto and Daniel Geale revolved around the catch-weight of 157.

When the fight was first announced, it seemed like the catch weight wasn’t a big deal especially when the WBC sent out a release saying Geale was 158 lbs. a month ago.

However, that report seemed to be false as Geale was 167.5 at the seven-day weight in for the WBC.

At the final presser today, Daniel Geale’s promoter spoke highly against the catch-weight and said they shouldn’t be for title fights. Cotto said when the weight was negotiated; this wasn’t the case.

“Maybe he’s having trouble making the weight,” Cotto told the media. “Maybe because the pressure of the fight and because the fight is so close is why.”

Gennady Golovkin is the mandatory to the WBC middleweight title and much of the questions revolved around when Cotto would face his mandatory challenger. Cotto says it will happen when it happens.

”You can answer your question yourself, you can go to Boxrec yourself and check his resume,” Cotto said. “It’s normal the fans want the best ones facing the best ones, but every fight has its time. It happened with Mayweather-Manny, people waited four, five, six years for it to happen. People have to wait.”

Cotto feels he’ll do what he does on his own terms. He’s given boxing his hard work, and he will do what’s best for him.

“We’ve made many sacrifices and hard work. I’m here to hard work. People can ask for Golovkin or Canelo, whoever they want. But those fights are going to happen when they happen. We don’t going to push anything or rush anything. I know Freddie and Gavin wants the best for me and Me myself I want to best for me, myself, my family in my boxing career.”
