Miguel CottoThe much anticipated fight, between Puerto Rican boxing icon Miguel “Angel” Cotto and Mexican superstar powerhouse Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has finally been signed and sealed. For the second time this year, boxing fans are finally treated to another super fight.

Some say it is a mismatch in either fighter’s favor while others say that is a tossup fight – an even affair with an unpredictable outcome. The answer to who is right and who is wrong will be determined at The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on November 21, 2015.

My take on the fight is the Miguel “Angel” Cotto should be favored to win this match. He is the more experienced fighter, the much better technical boxer, and he has that game changing power in his left hook. The Cotto detractors will tell you that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is too strong, too young and too powerful for the older Cotto. To them I say, size and youth can get you but so far but at the end of the day skills pat the bills. In terms of power I think they are evenly matched, personally.

This will be the latest chapter in the one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports Puerto Rico vs Mexico. Which means there are high stakes in this fight and both men are proud warriors, who will come to fight. If you only buy one pay-per-view boxing match the remainder of the year, make sure it is this one. I had been favoring Canelo to win this fight until about June of this year.

I am going with the very hot fighter in Cotto in this one, who seems to have a huge chip on his shoulders these days, and is looking as sharp as ever. I just don’t see Canelo being able to deal with Cotto’s superb jab and boxing ability, then you add on the experience factor to his uncanny ability to land the left hook to the body, an area where Canelo has shown some vulnerability. I think it spells disaster for the younger fighter. I would not be surprised if Canelo won the fight and if it goes to the cards in my humble opinion.

I love the sport of boxing but the turn that is has taken in the last few months has pushed me away from it. This is a sentiment that I share with many of the other hardcore boxing fans. These are the guys the shell out their hard-earned money, to attend boxing events and buy pay-per-view fights. At least I can say that the fall schedule on HBO, has got me very excited about boxing again and I am looking forward to some quality possibly evenly matched boxing again.

There is also Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux at MSG to look forward to as well as Lucas Matthysse vs. Victor Postol. I am picking Viktor Postol to shine in his fight with Lucas Matthysse. Happy boxing days are here again! Hope to see you all that fights and you can follow me on Twitter @castlehillgil if you want to discuss it further.
