The biggest night of boxing is almost upon us. With less than 3 weeks until The One Pay-Per-View, the buzz is growing for boxing fans. In a poll conducted on ThaBoxingVoice.com, over 70% of the fans who voted, are more excited for the bout between Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse than the main event between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez and with good reason. The bout between Garcia-Matthysse to most is a more even, more action packed fight that could end with one man knocking out the other. Don’t tell Garcia that. He was a recent guest on ThaBoxingVoice Show, full of confidence.

“I’m the champ of the world, he’s not the champ, I’m confident. I feel like you need more than power to be a champion and that’s why he’s not a champion yet. September 14th, it’s going to be another day and another win for me to show the world that I’m the best,” Garcia stated on the program.

Garcia is the unified WBA, WBC, and Ring Magazine Jr. Welterweight Champion, but is still coming in as the underdog in this fight. Although he holds those credentials, most media outlets consider Lucas Matthysse the best 140lber in the world. Garcia knows all too well about being underestimated and could care less about it.

“I don’t care about the rankings because how could I take the opinion of someone who never put on the gloves and not been in the ring. They just go by the hype and run off that. I been proved myself because I beat fighters I wasn’t supposed to beat. September 14th is the same mentality I been going into the fight, and that’s to get the win. Whether people love it, people respect it, I really don’t care. It’s a business and I’m happy with my business.”

Garcia said he has no issues making 140 but if he wins this fight; he feels he has nothing to prove and would likely move up to 147, where there are lucrative options.

“After this fight, I basically beat everybody at 140, I feel like I have no more business being at this weight. If everything goes well, I’ll go up to 147,” stated Garcia.

Regarding unifying other titles held by Lamont Peterson or Mike Alvarado who fights under the Top Rank banner, he explained, “It’s the politics of the sport. I would love to unify all the belts. We could have been doing that if he (Matthysse) fought Peterson for the belts. I feel like if I fight Peterson after I beat Matthysse, it’s like a step back for my career; I’m basically fighting someone who beat Peterson. I’ll unify the titles but a lot of people don’t look at him as a champion no more. I got to keep going for bigger and better things.”

Those bigger and better things could lead to Garcia not being on the co-feature of a Mayweather pay-per-view but actually headlining it with Mayweather should both win.
