Danny Garcia-Lamont PetersonThis Saturday, live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Premier Boxing Champions will be presenting a pair of top notch fights as the undefeated Danny “Swift” Garcia will be facing Lamont “Havoc” Peterson while the WBO Middleweight Champion, “Irish” Andy Lee, will be squaring off against the undefeated “Kid Chocolate” Peter Quillin. Even though Garcia and Peterson are both champions at junior welterweight, this fight will be fought at a 143 pound weight limit, and no belts will be on the line.

The 27-year-old, from Philly, Danny Garcia will be stepping into the ring with a record of 29-0 with 17 KOs. Some of his best wins include Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysee, Kendall Holt, and Zab Judah. However, due to his outside the ring public personality, his father, and some of his entourage, Garcia doesn’t seem to be the fan favorite that he should be. That was only made worse by his last two fights. He got a controversial decision vs. Mauricio Herrera and didn’t seem like a rematch will happen. Then he beat up on little known Rod Salka. He hopes to get back on the right track that he was on after being Lucas Matthysee on the Floyd Mayweather–Canelo Alvarez undercard.

Lamont Peterson is a 31-year-old tough fighter from the DC area. He’s coming into the fight with a record of 33-2-1 with 17 KOs. His best wins also include Amir Khan and Kendall Holt. He also had a draw with Victor Ortiz and his losses came to Lucas Matthysee and Timothy Bradley Jr. Peterson was stopped for the 1st time in his career when he fought Matthysee three fights ago and wants to prove that he still belongs on the elite level of junior welterweights.

The key to this fight will be if Peterson can constantly pressure Garcia the way he did with Khan. Against Khan, Peterson was in his face all fight, dirty boxing, and roughing him up. Garcia can also do that a little, but Peterson is one of the best at it. If the fight is fought on the outside and in the middle of the ring, Garcia will win, if it’s fought on the inside and against the ropes, Peterson will pull it off. I do nothing think this one will end early, and assuming it goes to the cards, Garcia is supposed to be the “star” of the event. Because of that, I’m picking Garcia by split decision, but some will think Peterson won in a very close fight.
Andy Lee is a UK born boxer that comes into Saturday night with a record of 34-2 with 24 KOs.

Andy Lee-Peter QuillinHe had one of the biggest feel-good moments of the year in boxing when he defeated Matt Korobov to win the then vacant, WBO World Middleweight belt. Before that his only notable win was against Brian Vera and Lee is probably most known for getting stopped by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, which pushed Chavez Jr up to a title bout with Sergio Martinez. He wants to prove to the world that the Korobov fight was not a fluke, and he is a true champion.

Peter Quillin, also known as Kid Chocolate, sits at 31-0 with 22 KOs. He was the WBO World Middleweight Champion before Lee. He turned down 1.4 million to fight Korobov and vacated the belt in September of 2014. He has not fought in over a year and with his best wins coming against Gabe Rosado and Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam, we don’t really know how good he is. Quillin has vowed to win his belt back against Lee in the same arena he originally won it in, back in 2012.

It’s hard not to be a fan of Andy Lee. He makes you want to root for him. He was never given anything, and he fights as hard as you can ask for. However, you cannot let your heart cloud your mind when picking winners. As I said earlier, Kid Chocolate never lost the belt. He may not be walking in with the belt, but no one has ever left the ring after facing him with the belt. As much as I or others may root for Andy Lee, in many people’s minds Quillin is still the champion, and until someone beats him, you got to go with him. So with that said, my pick is Kid Chocolate to stop Andy Lee in the 6th.

All in all, this card has a lot of interesting fighters on it. Viktor Postel is the man who is “supposed” to be facing Danny Garcia next for Garcia’s junior welterweight belt, but we’ll see if that ever happens. Luis Collazo, Marcus Browne, Gabriel Bracero, Errol Spence Jr, and Heather Hardy will also have fights on the card. No matter who wins, it should be an entertaining night of fights in Brooklyn and that’s a good sign for Al Haymon, Premiere Boxing Champions, and the sport of boxing itself, so enjoy the fights.
