stevenson-george (5)Coming off his twelve round unanimous decision victory over Dyah Davis, ThaBoxingVoice.com had a chance to catch up with Don ‘Da Bomb’ George. The super middleweight from Chigaco picked up the vacant IBO title with this win over Dyah Davis.

“It’s a life long dream to become champion”, the 29-year old fighter stated. He continued, “I kept grinding. I fought everybody. I was taking fights on short notice in crazy places. Nobody wanted fight Davis, cause of his ugly style, but I said, of course, let me fight him, and now I finally got a belt and everybody wants to fight me. I still feel like I am dreaming.”

With everybody, George is specifically talking about a potential fight with Lucian Bute. The fighter told us that he got thousands of messages from fight fans from Canada, asking him to come fight in Quebec against their hometown favorite, Bute. The Romanian native is scheduled to make his comeback in December and George seems to be in the running to get that fight.

Bute is expected to team up with Freddy Roach in the near future. However with Manny Pacquiao fighting Algieri in November, there won’t be much time for Freddy Roach to work with Bute. We asked George if he was looking to make that fight as soon as possible, so that Bute isn’t able to benefit as much from working with the trainer of the year. George answered, “I got a lot of respect for Freddy Roach, but he is just the trainer. I will be facing Lucian Bute in the ring and Bute has been fighting his whole life. It’s hard to give him new tricks. These things don’t happen in a few months.”

We conclude the interview with asking George what  did he change to become a fighter of this level. He explained, “I’m using my head movement a little more. I still like to bang, but I don’t get hit that much anymore.”
