Isaac Chilemba defeated Rayco Saunders via unanimous decision to open up the card at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino on the off-air HBO Boxing after Dark under card. Chilemba from South Africa improved his record to 20-1-1 (9 KO’s) easily outpointing Saunders winning every round on the judges scorecards. Chilemba was supposed to open up the the televised portion of the HBO undercard but was forced off the main card because of an injury to his opponent Zsolt Erdei. Chilemba landed numerous uppercuts outworking his outmatched opponent. Chilemba’s trainer Buddy Mcgirt said the fight went as expected. “Saunders is a tough customer, so i expected it to go 8 rounds. I just want to get more work in with him to prove to the world that Chilemba will be a world champion.
Chilemba concurs with his trainer. “Saunders was a tough opponent and we trained to split his guards with the uppercuts”, stated Chilemba. The disappoinment of not being on the televised card did not seem to phase Chilemba as he dominated his opponent. “I”d love to get in the ring with Erdie, If not I want all the world champions, you name them; Tavoris Cloud, Chad Dawson, Nathan Cleverly. If Bernard Hopkins is still around, I’d fight him and Jean Pascal.”
In a 6 round heavyweight women’s bout Sonya Lamonakis landed thunderous trapping her opponent Tanzee Daniels in a majority decision. In what was an entertaining scrap, Daniels fueled by her energetic crowd, Lamonakis trapped her opponent and hit Daniels with combinations. Daniels had a good round or two but the pressure and power of Lamanokis proved to be too much as she beat her opponent, Daniels 59-55 59-55, and 57 57.
Local talent of New Haven, CT knocked out his super bantamweight foe Victor Valenzuela of Passaic, NJ. The bout started off slow but the action picked up in the 5th round where Rosa seemed to pick up the pace and take the action to stop Valenzuela and improving his record to 11-0 with 6 KO’s
In a super featherweight bout, local favorite and polish sensation Ryan Kielczweski steadily outworked and outpaced his over matched his opponent Jeremy McLaurin. The Polish sensation moved, jabbed, and lead with his left hand and came over with the right multiple times against his opponent. The two traded heavy bombs in the 5th round to which Kielczweski got the better of.
In the 6th round with Mclaurin all but trailing, he tried to take the action to Ryan but the movement, speed and constant jabbing backed his opponent up to landing multiple right hands to close out the 6th all but sealing his unanimous decision victory.
In the last non-televised portion of the card, Irish crowd favorite Danny O Connor ended his opponent in swift but ferocious fashion. From the on set, you could see the difference in skill. The power was there for O Connor as he hit his opponent multiple times ending his opponent in the third round.
