Last night Erislandy Lara proved to the boxing world why he belongs amongst the top three fighters and is ranked number two in the 154 pound divisions.

Lara lost a close fight against Saul Alvarez in a fight where many of the rounds could have gone either way and the big controversy was a lopsided scorecard which was way off. Aside from that, Lara put his boxing skills on display and proved to be a difficult target for a good portion of the fight but those skills are a blessing and a curse.

Lara is blessed with the ability to not take much damage and avoid the punches coming at him but the curse that his skills have by far outweigh the blessings. Lara can make any opponent look unimpressive and creates less action oriented types of fights and has caused many fighters to bypass the Cuban southpaw and opt for other opponents which has been an issue for Lara.

The outcome of last night’s fight may have not changed a thing whether Lara would have won or lost. Had he of won he would still be bypassed by other fighters whom are looking to take an easier route. The loss would give the same result. Lara is a dangerous fighter who is slick, powerful and very skilled. All of those features has and will continue to push opposition away and who knows, things could be different if he was any less of a fighter but we all know who he is and how he is and that makes for a difficult path in his career. As long as he remains the same, things will never change.
