Errol SpenceErrol Spence is one of the top Welterweight prospects in boxing; he will be fighting on Saturday on the card headlined by Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson on NBC (8:30 pm). Spence (15-0-12 KOs) will fight Columbian Samuel Vargas (20-1-1, 10 KOs) a fight in which he looks good it should catapult him to real contender status instead of just prospect. Spence spoke with “ESPN Boxing” writer Dan Rafael ahead of his first fight under the PBC (Premier Boxing Champions) banner.

“I am the best young prospect in the game; I’m on the borderline of contender status, and I believe I’m one fight away from being a contender.”

Spence has fought some sub-par competition but recently has some convincing wins against some solid fighters, such as Emanuel Lartey and Ronald Cruz. Spence elaborated on his competition and how he can favor amongst the top of his division.

“The fight I learned from most from was the Emanuel Lartey; he was undefeated along with me, and it was my first real fight and first time going the distance. I’m a little bit of a mix style-wise. I’m a boxer; I can punch, and I can fight if I have to.”

Spence if he gets past his test on Saturday in the “Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York against Samuel Vargas he can find himself amongst some of the top fighters in the welterweight division. His allegiance with adviser Al Haymon doesn’t hurt his chance as well seeing as Haymon has most of the top names in the division, which means there shouldn’t be any complications making exciting fights.

“I see myself fighting all the top guys in the welterweight division. I see myself with Keith Thurman, Amir Khan, and any top welterweight. “I’m going to look good as always on Saturday night. It’s going to be fantastic, and I’m going to come out with the victory.”
