Floyd-MayweatherManny Pacquiao’s only chance at beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be on May 2nd. The undefeated Mayweather said on Tuesday that there will not be a rematch between the two fighters.

Of course, no one can really tell what will happen until the conclusion of their impending super-fight. If Mayweather were to somehow lose to Pacquiao, I think he may want a second chance, but being the poised man Mayweather is, he’s probably not even thinking about losing. After all, he hasn’t lost a fight since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics – a fight that he actually dominated – and received a bronze medal.

ESPN’s Dan Rafael confirmed Mayweather’s statement.

“Floyd said there won’t be a rematch in Sept,” Rafael said on Twitter. “Floyd reiterates he plans to fight final bout of Showtime deal in Sept. and then retire.”

It is still unknown who he plans to fight in September.

To be fair, you can’t really blame Mayweather for not wanting the rematch. After all, it took over half a decade just to get to where we are today. Floyd admitted in a recent interview that he’s looking forward to his retirement from boxing because the sport isn’t as fun as it used to be for him, although some are taking those comments with a grain salt given that the No. 1 pay-per-view attraction is known for playing psychological warfare with his opponents.

I still believe there is a possibility that a rematch can be made – it’s very unlikely – but it’s not impossible. If Pacquiao were to win, I don’t think Mayweather would accept it, to be completely honest. My prediction is that Mayweather would boast that he still made more money than Pacquiao during the fight, so he’s still the guy to beat. Call me crazy, but if Mayweather was crazy enough to say he was better than Muhammad Ali, why not say something even more ludicrous?
