In this video interview as covered by the Tha Boxing Voice, leading up to the the big fight, that we are all looking forward to, between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez on September 14, 2013. The great Floyd Mayweather, fields a few somewhat original questions for a change.
The interview starts, with a media member asking; Floyd Mayweather eight time world champion pound for pound the best fighter on the planet, going up against Canelo Alvarez on September 14th in Vegas, what are your thoughts on this fight? Floyd with his super star smile on in full display, responds “Another blockbuster, you have a young strong Champion Canelo, he is the guy at 154; I am the #1 pound for pound fighter in the sport of boxing. It’s going to be an exciting fight come September 14. He is a guy, I know I can’t overlook.”
The next question presented was; this kid is 22 years old, he is young, he has no fear, he is undefeated does he worry you at all, does he keep you up at night? In a somewhat defensive tone Floyd retorts, “Well….I don’t if know if he has no fear…um, because you can’t speak for another man, because you are not inside his body. But Canelo is a young champion you know, I know he hungry to knock me off the throne, like every other fighter that’s been hungry to knock me off the throne. But I have been here for 17 years. I have a lot of experience and I know what it takes to win a fight at this level, of this caliber.”
In terms of training for this fight another reporter probes; do you plan on doing anything special or just the standard? Confidently and perhaps somewhat annoyed the great Floyd Mayweather hits back, with one of his many patented cliché answers “Nah….just the same thing if it’s not broke don’t fix it.” Can’t say that I blame him, he has probably answered some of these questions numerous times already. That can wear on anyone, after a while.
They say save the best for last, got little cliché here. To the question of of; what do you think that you can show Canelo that he has not seen already? Floyd closes out the interview by pointing out two things that we boxing enthusiast are fully aware of, which also looms heavily over the probable outcome of this, greatly anticipated duel. Mayweather says, “Well I have a lot of experience, Floyd Mayweather can make adjustments” he follows by my making a great points. “I can do a lot of things that other fighters can’t do: You have some fighters that have a great jab, you have some fighters that have a great right hand, You have some fighters that have a great defense, You have some fighters that have a great offense, where as I like to mix all into one, Floyd Mayweather can do everything.
