Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez has been waiting for quite some time to step back into the ring under the bright lights in front of boxing fans to do what he always does, put on a show.
Gonzalez last stepped foot in the ring earlier this year when he faced off against Ronald Barrera in a 10 round bout. Gonzalez moved up in weight for the bout and was able to stop his opponent before the fifth round finished.
Since then, Gonzalez expected to move and to even bigger fights and to face other champions, but the phone never rang. Offers were made for fights but the opponents said no. His patience began to wear thin as would anyone who is not allowed to do their job and make money for their family.
Finally, for Gonzalez the wait is over. Gonzalez will fight on September 21st in Managua, Nicaragua. His opponent has yet to be determined but is more than likely going to be a Mexican opponent.
There was talk of Gonzalez fighting either in Mexico or even Japan but those fights never went though.
