Things are looking to heat up on this Friday’s edition of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights as future stars are showcased.  Returning to the Chumash Resort  Casino in Santa Ynez, California, ESPN will televise two bouts; the main event featuring Peruvian rising prospect Jonathan “Inca Peruano” Maicelo (19-0 11 KO’s) going up against Rustam “The Mongoose” Nugaev (22-6-1 12 KO’s). The co-feature will show off the destructive power of Jorge “Machito” Maysonet Jr. (11-0 10 KO’s) as he looks for his 10th straight knockout victory over Gabriel “The Ghost” Tolmajyan (13-2-1 3 KO’s).

Jonathan Maicelo who has relocated to North Bergen, NJ, will be entering his 5th fight in the United States, entering the pro ranks with a successful amateur career back home in Peru. He looks to take the next step. Growing up on the mean streets of Callo, Peru; Maicelo has turned his hobby into a craft, and his persona in to a celebrity in his home country. “Inca Peruano” has a very large following and has turned that success in to motivation to be the first legit Peruvian world champion. Rebuilding in the U.S. he takes a step up in the level of competition that has brought him 19 wins as he faces tough Russian Rustam Nugaev, who has faced the tougher competition in wins and losses; even knocking out former world title challenger Justin Juuko in just 2 rounds.

This main event should give us a good look at the young lightweight Maicelo; as he should be able to impose his will on Nugaev who is coming off a 2 year layoff. If he wins impressively he might bring a jolt to the 135lb division that has its brightest star, Adrien Broner moving up, leaving a vacant spot.

In the co-feature of the night, proud Puerto Rican brawler Jorge Maysonet Jr. ; will have his hands full facing off against Gabriel Tolmajyan,  who has lost to other prospects, but has never been stopped. Fighting against only the 3rd boxer with a winning record; “Machito”, who is trained by his father Jorge Sr., will look to use his explosive power that seems to run in his veins. Maysonet Sr. who was also a pro with all of his 22 wins coming by knockout; has trained his son to be a machine, and after destroying Ramesis Gil in one round two fights ago, wants to keep him busy and get him more TV time.

If the 140lb Maysonet wins this fight, it just might set him in to a lineage of great fighters to come from the small island like heroes Benitez, Gomez, Trinidad, and Cotto; and also strike fear in to the hearts of other light welterweight boxers, if he should win by another devastating knockout. As we have two highly touted prospects stepping up and looking to reach stardom on ESPN, we should all look forward to witnessing what could be the next stars in their respected divisions.
