Froch-Bute and Victor Ortiz Rants Headline The Wire Report

Welcome fight fans , no huge bouts this weekend, so I scoured around as much as I could to dig up some boxing news smack talk. I first visit why Bute believes he can beat Froch in England. Some well placed words delivered by Timothy Bradley on NY radio. Victor Ortiz’ thoughts on Canelo Alvarez, and Odlanier Solis’ return to the ring, all this and more on todays Wire Report.

On May 26th former WBC super middleweight champ Carl “The Cobra” Froch(28-2, 20KO’s) faces IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24KO’s) in Froch’s backyard of Nottingham, in the UK. I have a feeling that this event will be the surprise fight of the summer in boxing. There has been a weird lead up especially since Khan-Peterson has been called off, because of Peterson’s alleged PED usage. Not to mention no big networks jumped on this fight, so it will be aired on EPIX. I hope it’s a battle, shame on HBO, and SHOWTIME for not broadcasting this fight. Bute makes his 10th title defense on for the first time on foreign soil against a notable opponent, and the networks don’t jump on that, whack!! Froch believes his countrymen will lift him up to win against Bute. Lucian on the other hand believes it is his speed that will seal the deal against a slower Froch. I’m going out on a limb with this one, fight of the year candidate.

Timothy Bradley was on WLIE NY radio last night, and had some things to say about Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao, and Amir Khan. Bradley started off by talking about a confrontation he and Amir Khan had, at the weigh in for the undercard of Paquiao-Marquez. After Bradley weighed in Khan was a few steps away and muttered “grow some balls”. Khan referring to last years failed negotiations when Bradley backed out of facing Khan, and joined Top Rank.. Bradley said he felt like slapping Khan across the face, but hesitated because he didn’t want to embarrass himself or put his career in jeopardy. Bradley also had a few words for Khan’s trainer and next opponent. Freddie Roach has compared Timothy Bradley’s style to Ricky Hatton, a boxer who Pacman dispatched in 2 rounds. Timothy said that both Roach and Pacquiao must be retarded if they think he fights like Hatton, and come fight night. They will all see, how he can, fight, box, and brawl when necessary. I compare Timothy Bradley to a younger Shane Mosley.. What do you guys think?

Off to Victor Ortiz and his thoughts on Alvarez-Mosley.. Ortiz says he wasn’t not very impressed of the fight nor with Saul Alvarez’s skills. “I have respect and love for his style of boxing but c’mon let’s be real, Canelo is being set up just perfect. What happens when a young cub like Canelo, meets a young lion like Me”, said Ortiz. Sounds like a lot of Lion King crap to me. Ortiz is looking for his next payday. He hasn’t taken out Berto yet, and Berto seems to be under Floyd Mayweather’s radar.. Is it just me? Or does something smell fishy?

Back in action after a year out of the ring is Odlanier Solis (17-1, 12KO’s), who on Saturday faces heavyweight journeyman Konstantin Airich (23-5-2, 17KO’s) at the Convention Center, in Pharr, TX. The last time we saw Solis with his gloves laced, he was getting laced by Vitali Klitschko in Germany last May. Solis was rocked by Klitschko at the end of the first round, then Solis did his impression of Yuri Forman’s pirate dance, and lost by TKO. Was I the only one that found it interesting that before the Cotto-Mayweather fight there was friction between two former friends that were on opposing fight camps. Namely Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Odlanier Solis. Who were both on the same Cuban Olympic team, and even defected to America together. The rift was caused when Gamboa joined the Money Team and said he would teach Mayweather how to figure out Pedro Diaz’ style of training. Solis stood by he and Miguel Cotto’s trainer and walked out in Cotto’s Entourge. Weird how the business of boxing can place friends on different sides of enemy lines, but I guess thats boxing for you.

Here are some more boxing tidbits for you guys to snack on. Golden Boy Promotions says it will not hold another fight in Washington DC if Lamont Peterson is not stripped of his two title belts he won from Amir Khan. Team Alexander boasts that Devon would beat the skirt off Pauli Malinaggi, and last but not least. Manny Pacquiao has nothing against gays, unless they are gays that want to marry.
