TeamGab_crop_650x440Gennady Golovkin with a record of 31-0 with 28 knockouts has the highest knockout percentage of any middleweight titleholder in history. With a knockout ratio of 90% it is not a surprise that comparisons of Mike Tyson have been drawn up. People have considered him as the pound for pound biggest puncher in the sport. It’s difficult to argue anyone has a stronger punch in the middleweight division, but Gabriel Rosado believes one particular fighter is heavier handed.

In an ESNEWS interview done a few months ago Rosado declared Quillin’s power to be on par with the fighter from Kazakhstan. He stated, “Believe it or not Kid Chocolate [Peter Quillin] has pretty heavy hands. I would say GGG has a better snap, but Kid has more of a heavy hand.”

Their records do not indicate equality in power, but Rosado has been in the ring with both opponents. If anyone can give the most accurate assessment in the matter it would be Rosado. This begs the question why does Golovkin deliver more knockout victories. Most people point to the technical skill, and outstanding amateur pedigree of Golovkin. It can also be the stylistic approach of being more aggressive.

Quillin has been adamant in having the desire of fighting the best opponents in the division, but due to political barriers he is left out of the picture in many potentially great match-ups. Whether these issues can be thawed out overtime remains to be seen, but even though Golovkin would be considered the best in the division. It would be great for the sport of boxing to negate these barriers and be able to have fighters such as Quillin be able to get into the mix of things.
