Yuriorkis Gamboa was once regarded as one of the top fighters in the sport and as cruel as the sport of boxing can be his praise has turned to criticism.

After a falling out with promoter Top Rank after issues with a Brandon Rios fight and his name appearing on a list for PED’s his career started to spiral down. Gamboa joined 50 Cent’s start-up promotional company SMS Promotions and has fought twice under that banner in two lackluster victories which we seen him fight at 130 and 135 pounds.

Currently, Gamboa is in search of a worthy opponent to put his status back where he would like it to be. The fighter that can do that is Miguel “Mikey” Garcia, should he decide to move up to 130 pounds. Garcia has impressed in many of his fights but his two most recent victories have been against name competition that are recognized as top opponents (even though Juan Manuel Lopez was considered done after the Salido fights).”I do not have a specific boxer in mind for my next fight but at the same time I’d like to fight the guys that are looking to fight me like Mikey Garcia and Adrien Broner,” said Gamboa. “If I have to come down to 130 pounds for a worthy challenge I would do it with no problem. I just want to prove to the guys that think they can beat me that I can beat them.”

Should the two fighters face each other it could be more of a test for Gamboa than for Garcia. Gamboa has speed and power and the angles that he hits from can do damage but Garcia is a superior defensive fighter who is accurate and has power as well. With Gamboa’s lack of defense he is primed and ready to taste Garcia’s gloves as well as the canvas all night but that doesn’t mean he has no chance. In boxing anything can happen.
