Floyd Mayweather Jr. has worked with Rafael Garcia for the past 16 years, but the veteran cutman says finding the final opponent for Mayweather, the undefeated former five-division world champion, will be a tall task – because all of the remaining options for the pound-for-pound king are huge underdogs, or Mayweather has already defeated.

Mayweather, who fought and defeated former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao by unanimous decision on May 2nd, plans to return on September 12th, which would be the final fight of his storied career.

On the evening of the rematch between Mayweather and Marcos Maidana last September, Mayweather had another individual wrap his hands, which angered Garcia, who chose to retire. However, he returned to assist in Mayweather’s preparation for Manny Pacquiao.

Garcia, speaking with ESPN Deportes, added that finding opponent is not the issue, but finding an opponent that will make Mayweather work, is the issue.

All of the big names, like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Miguel Cotto, and Manny Pacquiao – have all suffered defeats to Mayweather. Garcia admits that his final fight could be another easy victory.

“I think anyone who they put him in with will be fine, but the problem is that I think it will be an easy win because all of the best have been put in front of him, and he’s beaten them. Pacquiao said he was the best of all and look what happened.

“What happens is that Floyd is a good boy who everybody wants to beat at all costs – give him head butts, elbows, knees, but no has been able to because he is so intelligent and knows how to move at the right moment,” Garcia said.

WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, who has expressed interest in moving down to 154 lbs. to fight Mayweather, is still an option, although it would be a very dangerous fight for Mayweather to take at this stage in his career.
