Terence Crawford v Thomas DulormeOxnard trainer Robert Garcia was in Texas this past weekend for the Terence Crawford-Thomas Dulorme bout that headlined a Top Rank card at the University of Texas in Arlington, although the matchup was the co-feature on an HBO broadcast that featured Lucas Matthysse-Ruslan Provodnikov in Verona, New York.

Garcia was impressed with Crawford, who destroyed Garcia’s former fighter Dulorme in the 6th round of their junior welterweight bout. Garcia had been training Dulorme for his last few fights, but Dulorme decided to train in his home country of Puerto Rico this time.

Dulorme decided he wanted to train in Puerto Rico, but he asked Garcia if he’d come to Puerto Rico to train him, Garcia declined. Garcia couldn’t leave Oxnard for just one fighter with his stable at home, a stable that consists of marquee fighters and young prospects from all around the world.

Garcia assessed Dulorme’s performance in an interview with Thaboxingvoice.com’s Anthony “Rod” Rodriguez. In the interview, Garcia spoke about how he was impressed with Crawford and maintains that he appears to be the goods. The trainer from Oxnard was so impressed with Crawford that he admitted to Thaboxingvoice.com that the result of the fight probably wouldn’t have been effected with him in Dulorme’s corner.

“He was actually doing good the first couple of rounds,” Garcia told Thaboxingvoice. “That’s what Dulorme does, the first few rounds he does really good but then he starts fading a little. It was just a matter of time that Crawford started landing some good shots. I’m not going to say it would’ve been anything different [if I was in his corner]. Crawford is a great fighter, a great champion and is headed to be one of the best in the division.”
