Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City this Saturday night will play host to a WBC World Lightweight Title fight as Gavin ‘The Rock’ Rees (37-1-1) will attempt to remove the title from the man simply known as ‘The Problem’; Cincinnati’s own,  Adrien Broner.

The unassuming Welshman is a former WBA Light Welterweight Champion, who has found himself in line for a shot at the gold after his own proposed ‘all British’ clash with Scotsman John Murray fell through. This problem opened up the window of opportunity as Broner himself failed to land a fight with another Scotsman, WBO Lightweight Champion Ricky Burns.

Rees who for the first time in his career will fight on US soil, had this to say, “I’ve never been stopped. I can take him out in the first round, but I am ready to go into deep water if I have to. Either way, I have trained hard and will be ready to dictate the pace of the fight and not let him get away with a lot of what other fighters have let him do.”

Rees seems in a very confident mood and is sure he can accomplish what no previous opponent of Broner has managed.

As if fighting on foreign soil for the first in his career wasn’t daunting enough, Rees has the somewhat unenviable task of attempting to dethrone a man who at the tender age of 23 has become a 2 time World Champion and is now ranked No. 6 in The Ring Magazine’s Pound For Pound list.

Rees added, “Who has he fought? I’ve seen his fights and half of those guys just stood in front of him letting him dictate the pace of the fight. I’m not going to let him do that. This is the first fight that I have trained away from home because I’m going to show him that I’m no walk in the park. I have to watch for his right uppercut which he throws from down low, but he’s not the best on his feet either. Work rate is going to be important.”

In spite of the task that awaits him this weekend and the undoubted pedigree of the Champion, Rees seems upbeat that he will succeed where 25 of his predecessors have failed. Only time will tell and the time for talk has almost come to an end. On Saturday Night, we will find out just how much weight is carried in Gavin Rees’ words, as the whole world watches to find out if ‘The Rock’ truly has the answer to ‘The Problem’
