Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez made a statement and announced his arrival in 2016 when he snatched Arthur Abraham’s WBO Super Middleweight Title. After his victory, he would go on and defend his title five times, leave Top Rank and move up to light heavyweight.

Ramirez was supposed to fight in a WBC title eliminator against Marcus Browne for the interim Light Heavyweight Title but he ended up backing out of the negotiations before the purse bid came to.  Fast forward a couple of weeks and Ramirez is in the news again. This time for signing on with Golden Boy Promotions.

The signing seems to have Oscar De La Hoya excited and he sees big things in Ramirez’s future.

“We are delighted to have signed Zurdo Ramirez to a multi-fight deal, an undefeated former world champion from the land of warriors in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico,” Tweeted De La Hoya.  “Big things coming!”
