In boxing, as in all sports, winning means everything but you can’t win every fight every time. For some fighters a loss could be a burden. It could destroy you mentally and always give you self doubt. A loss can also do the opposite and be career defining and push you to better yourself.

Glen Tapia experienced the first loss of his career last year when he took on James Kirkland and even though he wasn’t victorious it does not mean the end of the world for him because many of the greatest fighters in boxing’s history have had losses and what mattered most is that they faced the best competition out there.

“(Floyd) Mayweather got this era thinking it’s all about that 0. Some of the greatest boxers had L’s,” said Tapia. “From Julio Cesar Chavez, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Salvador Sanchez, Aaron Pryor, Wilfredo Benitez etc., etc. to The Greatest Muhammad Ali. It’s about fighting the best and giving the fans what they want. Roy Jones was one of the best boxers of the 90’s and early 2000’s but once he lost, boxing fans forgot about his whole legacy. Manny Pacquiao was a beast for many years and was one of the top pound for pound fighters in our generations and once he lost, everyone forgot his legacy. Mayweather is one of the most talented boxers of our generation and is on top of the pound for pound list and if he was to ever lose everyone would forget his legacy. It’s a cold world.”
