Gennady GolovkinThe ‘Seconds Out’ boxing team were in attendance at the LA Dodgers stadium to see undefeated WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin(32-0, 29KO’s) throw out the first pitch after an action-filled weekend of boxing.

Two days before the world watched Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez(45-1-1, 32KO’s) decimate a surprisingly overmatched James Kirkland(32-2, 28KO’s) in frightening fashion. GGG was asked how he would fare against the talented Mexican youth. He was well aware that Canelo has been edging his way towards the middleweight division and warned that things will be different than he is used to up there with the bigger men.

“Not easy. Little bit different style because he is going to 160[.lb.]. I think so. 160 is different speed, different power, different style.”

And on whether the meeting is likely to turn into a war should it happen;

“Yes absolutely. Mexican style. This, biggest deal for both of us, biggest fight for us and this is great fight for fans.”

A far more lucrative opportunity to face one of the other middleweight champions in WBC belt holder Miguel Cotto(39-4, 32KO’s) is also a very real possibility. and may take precedence over the GGG fight for Canelo given the Mexican-Puerto Rican national rivalry it would represent. Cotto appears to be a more beatable opponent too, so we may see that one before GGG gets his chance.

Either way, as Canelo bulks up we are bound to see him take on all comers as he has shown his willingness to do. The prospect of seeing more demolition jobs like the one he did on Kirkland is tantalising, but a meeting with GGG would be like two nuclear bombs colliding in mid-air.
