Gennady Golovkin - Andre WardA fight between WBA Super World super-middleweight champion Andre Ward (30-0, 15 KO’s) and WBA Super World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s) seems realistic depending on how things play out this year.

It was reported by ESPN’s Dan Rafael that it is a possibility that Ward will fight on the undercard of Miguel Cotto vs. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on HBO pay-per-view from Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on November 21st.

Ward and Cotto are both signed with Roc Nation Sports. There is the possibility that the Kazakh Golovkin will fight the winner of Cotto-Canelo in early 2016. If Golovkin can surpass all the hurdles, he could Ward in the summer of 2016, but that’s just my thinking.

Let’s say Cotto beats Canelo in November and signs to fight Golovkin. If negotiations run smoothly to make the fight happen and Golovkin ends up winning the fight, a fight between Golovkin and Ward “should” be easy to make as long as the two promoters are on good terms.

However, even if that scenario does play out, it still could be a while to get Golovkin and Ward in the ring because Triple G’s goal is to unify the middleweight division. WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee fights Billy Joe Saunders in September.

If Saunders beats Lee, Golovkin will likely fight Ward unless they can persuade Saunders to take a fight against him for a considerable amount of money.

Saunders admitted late last week that he wanted no part of Golovkin until he starts sliding [when he’s not as good as he is now], but he would consider the fight if there were a lot of money on the table.

With that being said, Golovkin-Ward may happen in 2016, or it’s going to be a long while.
