jhonny-gonzalez_crop_northIn what was expected to be a all out exciting fight, turned into a one sided fight that has led to the retirement, once again of Jorge Arce.

Jhonny Gonzalez and Arce met earlier tonight, in Arce’s hometown of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, to battle in a 12 round bout for Gonzalez’s WBC Featherweight title. The fight was expected to produce fireworks because of Arce’s aggressive style and Jhonny’s notability to go toe to toe. Instead, Gonzalez came, delivered, and is now leaving still a world champion. As for Arce, he has once again announced retirement, and chose to go out in his hometown.
Gonzalez and Arce had a pretty even first round, your traditional boxing round. It was in the 3rd where Gonzalez landed his signature left hook, that sent Arce to the canvas. It was the same left hook that rattled Abner Mares and led him to a 1st round knockout win over him that was considered upset of the year in 2013. Gonzalez proceeded to hunt down Arce and dropped him again, with the same punch at the end of the 5th round. Arce beat the count but was saved by the bell. You could tell by then, Arce was simply trying to survive, not showing much of his aggressiveness and only, occasionally throwing combinations. In the 9th round, Gonzalez once again landed his left hook that gave him 3 knockdowns over Arce. In between rounds, Arce’s corner considered stopping the fight, but Arce wouldn’t allow it, and all though he was taking punishment, he still came out to fight. It was in the 11th round were Gonzalez landed a combination that didn’t drop Arce, but surely rattled him, that proceeded the referee to stop the fight.
Shortly after, Arce announced his retirement from the sport again, since his 3rd round knockout loss to Nonito Donaire in Decemeber of 2012.
