horacio-lumacad2One of Mexico’s top rising stars, Horacio “Violento” Garcia, will seek his fourth win of 2014 on today, Saturday, August 16, when he defends his WBC Silver International Super Bantamweight title on Televisa and FOX Deportes against Colombia’s Jonathan Perez at the Centro de Convenciones Azul Ixtapa in Ixtapa, Mexico.

In the co-main event, Mexican bantamweights Jessica Gonzalez and Estrella Valverde square off in a 10-round bout for the WBC Female Interim Bantamweight World Title.

Also on the cardMexican bantamweight phenom Ivan Morales faces off with Colombia’s Cesar Canchilain a 10-round bout.

A popular figure on the Mexican fight scene, 24-year-old Horacio “Violento” Garcia (26-0, 18 KOs) is on the verge of making his mark worldwide, and his current number 15 ranking in the WBC is a good start. Winner of nine fights in two rounds or less, Garcia plans on giving his fans another early finish this Saturday as he makes his way to the top of the super bantamweight division.

Fighting out of Barranquilla, Colombia, Jonathan “Popeye” Perez (33-9, 27 KOs) has been unbeaten for nearly three years, a span that has seen him go unbeaten in 15 fights. With his last seven wins coming by way of knockout, the 27-year-old is clearly the biggest challenge Garcia has ever faced, making this a must-see battle for fight fans.

Popular Mexico City native Jessica “Magnificent” Gonzalez (5-1) has fought top competition throughout her career, and this experience allowed her to shine when she won the interim 118-pound title in November of 2013 by upsetting Yazmin Rivas. Now she will defend that title for the first time against Estado de Mexico veteran Estrella “La Chacala” Valverde (9-4-1, 1 KO), a two-time world title challenger who has won three of her last five fights.

Twenty-two-year-old Tijuana native Ivan “Nino Maravilla” Morales (25-0, 14 KOs) is a top Mexican prospect that hopes to add to his nation’s rich boxing history by becoming a world champion in the coming years. While he’s still young, his efforts thus far have shown him to be a mature fighter with a seemingly endless list of positive attributes. Coming off a 10-round win over 40-fight veteran Jose Alfredo Tirado in April, Morales faces the equally-experienced Canchila.

Monteria, Colombia’s Cesar Canchila (33-4, 25 KOs) is a former interim WBA junior flyweight champion who is looking to make a run at championship glory once again, this time at 118 pounds. A hard-punching veteran who is 5-1 in his last six bouts, with three knockouts, the 32-year-old Canchila has the power, savvy, and style that can test Morales and see if he is ready for prime time.

Garcia vs. Perez, a 12-round bout for the WBC Silver International Bantamweight Title, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 5 p.m. CT and the first fight begins at 6 p.m. CT. The FOX Deportes broadcast begins at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT and the Televisa broadcast airs at 10:30 p.m. CT.
